We Are Young (WAY) is a wonderful nonprofit organization that, through their Pilot Program, grants seniors’ unmet wishes in the Atlantic Provinces and, as of recently, in Ontario. Their goal is to “positively transform society’s view, value, and support for our oldest generation,” which goes beyond simply granting wishes. They want to promote respect for and appreciation for seniors through the act of granting wishes, as well as to encourage intergenerational connections that encourage inclusion and a sense of belonging in their communities.
We Are Young has granted nearly 50 bucket-list desires to people aged 70 and older since it began. These requests, which range from skydiving and seeing the Macy’s Parade in New York City to riding a Zamboni and dog sledding, have brought seniors unimaginable joy. Despite the fact that P.E.I. hasn’t yet seen any requests, this could soon change and bring the magic of realized dreams to the island.
One of the co-founders of WAY, Katie Mahoney, thinks that seniors should experience the excitement of accomplishing long-term goals. She is aware of the enormous effects crossing items off a bucket list may have on a person’s life because she has personally experienced doing so.

We Are Young’s primary goal is to change how society views aging in addition to fulfilling the wishes of elderly citizens. They want to dispel preconceptions and antiquated beliefs about seniors by displaying their active lives and amazing potential. Hoping that by sharing these wishes, they will encourage audiences to reconsider how they view aging and to think about how they can support seniors in their own lives.
Their work has an impact that goes well beyond the wishes of any one person. We Are Young encourages discussion, promotes understanding, and helps build a society that honours and supports seniors by altering the narrative surrounding aging. Their mission is to motivate a generation to see aging as a chance for development, friendship, and fulfillment.
Everyone is invited to take part in this revolutionary movement by We Are Young. There are many ways to become engaged, whether you’re an elderly person with unmet goals or someone who is passionate about helping the elderly. You can help change the perception of aging and empower seniors in our communities by giving, volunteering, or sharing the word about our organization.
